Who We Are

Christiansburg Mennonite Fellowship (CMF) is a growing Mennonite church in the New River Valley, Va. The church is associated with the Mennonite Church USA, an Anabaptist denomination with more than 109,000 members in 44 states.

CMF is a part of the Virginia Mennonite Conference, a network of congregations and ministry organizations linked by history, theology and geography, with a shared call to Christian faith, evangelism, discipleship, peacemaking and service.

Because CMF is the only MCUSA congregation in quite a large geographic area, the church serves much of the New River Valley, a predominantly rural area, with a number of small to large towns. Roanoke is the nearest metropolitan city, approximately 30 minutes from the Christiansburg--Blacksburg area. We are 2 hours away from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va.

CMF is situated between two university towns---Blacksburg (Virginia Tech) and Radford (Radford University). The two universities are significant assets, bringing a great diversity to the community. Our fellowship reflects much of that diversity as we seek to be a unique expression of Christ in our area. We appreciate, even celebrate, the diversity of thought and culture among us.

CMF does church family well. Due to the academic nature of the area, many members of the congregation are not native to the area, and are geographically separated from extended family. CMF is sensitive to this reality. Mutual care and a strong sense of community are foundational to our identity as a congregation. We believe the church is the family of God.

Our mutual care for one another is an aspect of the congregation that makes an immediate and lasting impression. This is particularly important to the growing college student population. We want to be a strong support and encouragement to university students as they grow in their faith, as well as their studies. We expect our ministry to students will continue to grow in the days ahead.

While a large percentage of the adults and young families who are members or active participants of our fellowship have not grown up in the Mennonite Church, our church embraces and affirms the beliefs found in the Mennonite Confession of Faith

We believe that Jesus is everything. He is God made flesh (Jn 1:14; Col 2:9).  He shows us what God is like and what it means to be fully human (Jn 14:9; Heb 3:1). We worship him and desire to get all of our LIFE from him, not from our theological opinions (Jn 5:39). Following Jesus and growing in our faith together (mind, body, and spirit) is integral to our understanding of church life.

CMF strives to be a missional "peace" church. This means that we believe God wants us to carry on the work of Jesus on the earth. As agents of new creation, we believe in the power of love and resurrection LIFE to reconcile people to God. Our mission is to love Maker, neighbor, and enemy for the glory of God. We're always looking for ways that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to others.

We are deeply concerned about local and global evangelism. Jesus has commissioned us to make disciples, to teach obedience to his commands, and to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matt 28:18-20).  He has called us by the power of his Spirit to build the Kingdom of God. As Jesus prayed, may his Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven (Matt 6:10).

We welcome all those who want to join us in furthering this mission. Learn more about becoming a covenant member of Christiansburg Mennonite Fellowship.
